Business Summary
Trans Power Marine's operational activities consist of three shipment services: transshipment, inter-island, and overseas. Transshipment involves transporting goods by tug boats and barges to mother vessel which then are carried by the mother vessel to its destination. Inter-island involves the transportation of goods from and to domestic ports. Inter-island transport accounts for about three-thirds of the company's operational activities. Lastly, overseas services involve the transportation of goods from domestic ports to destinations abroad, in particular to other Southeast Asian countries. Clients of the company are mainly from the following industries: coal mining and trading, metallurgical, power plants, cement factories, and forestry.
At the end of 2012, Trans Power Marine owned 21 tug boat units (with power capacity ranging from 1,500 HP to 2,400 HP) and 23 fleets of barges units (cargo capacities ranging from 8,000 MT to 10,000 MT. Both types have an average economic life of five years.
Although the company was relatively unaffected by the plunge of coal prices, the company decided to reduce its dependence on coal by diversifying its shipment to other bulk goods (including clinker, wood-chip, iron sand and kiln).
