• Trade Balance Indonesia: $1.52 Billion Deficit in May 2018

    After a (revised) USD $1.63 billion trade deficit in April 2018, Indonesia posted another big trade deficit in the following month. In May 2018 Indonesia's trade deficit reached USD $1.52 billion, slightly lower from the deficit in the preceding month but still constituting a wider deficit than had been expected by analysts. Despite rising exports in May, a soaring crude oil price managed to put big pressures on Indonesia's trade balance.

  • Looking Back at Indonesia's 2018 Eid al-Fitr Holiday

    The extended Eid al-Fitr holiday is now over and everyone should be back at work per Monday (25/06). Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta is also, again, plagued by heavy traffic congestion. In fact, traffic congestion should be slightly worse than before the holiday because it is estimated that more than 72,000 newcomers settled in Jakarta after this year's Eid al-Fitr holiday.

  • IPO News Indonesia: Trimuda Nuansa Citra Sets Offering Price

    Cargo and logistics company Trimuda Nuansa Citra set the offering price for its shares at IDR 150 a piece in the initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Considering the company offers 200 million shares to the public, it should raise IDR 30 billion (approx. USD $2.1 million) through the corporate move.

  • Radical Cleric Aman Abdurrahman Sentenced to Death by Indonesian Court

    On Friday (22/06) the South Jakarta District Court sentenced Aman Abdurrahman to death as he has been found guilty of masterminding terrorist attacks in Indonesia, including the Thamrin (Central Jakarta) suicide bombings and shootings in early 2016 as well as the Kampung Melayu bombing in East Jakarta in 2017. Abdurrahman is the leader of the Jamaah Anshar Daulah (JAD), one of the local terrorist networks that is affiliated with Islamic State (IS).
