    Last year Lazada and Tokopedia were the two most successful e-commerce platforms in Indonesia in terms of visitor numbers. These two giants are followed by Bukalapak and Blibli. Meanwhile, Elevenia (owned by the Salim Group) fell outside Indonesia's top 5 e-commerce platforms. While it ranked third at the start of 2017, Elevenia ended 2017 at 7th position.

    The Indonesian rupiah has been under heavy pressure over the past month amid US dollar strength ahead of the March Federal Reserve policy meeting where market participants expect to see another interest rate hike. The rupiah weakened 2.92 percent from IDR 13,402 per US dollar on 1 February 2018 to IDR 13,793 on 1 March 2018. Not only the rupiah but basically currencies have been sliding against the US dollar that touched a six-week high earlier in the week.

  • Consumer Price Index Indonesia: Inflation at 0.17% in February 2018

    The Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that Indonesia's headline inflation reached 0.17 percent month-on-month (m/m) in February 2018. This is a lower inflation rate compared to February 2017 (+0.23 percent m/m), hence the country's annual headline inflation eased to 3.18 percent (y/y) in February 2018, from 3.25 percent (y/y) in the preceding month.
