Based on statements of officials at Indonesia’s Trade Ministry, the USA started its investigation into the trade deficits the USA has with 16 countries, including Indonesia. Two months ago US President Donald Trump ordered this trade probe as part of his “America First” policy. Trump wants the USA to have the upper hand (meaning a trade surplus) in trade relations.
A total of 25 Indonesian companies have been selected to be in Nikkei's Asia300 index. This index now contains 316 companies that are listed in one of 11 Asian nations. The companies are selected based on market capitalization.
An Indonesian delegation collected more than USD $1.6 billion worth of investment commitments in a follow-up meeting after the Belt and Road summit in Beijing (held on 14-15 May 2017). These investment commitments come from two Chinese companies - Delong Steel Ltd and Tsing San Group - that are set to build a carbon steel factory in the industrial zone of Morowali (Central Sulawesi). Both firms team up with Indonesian company Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park for the development of the factory.
