  • Update Tax Amnesty Program of Indonesia: Results So Far?

    Although the peak of repatriated fund flows and tax declarations - in the context of Indonesia's tax amnesty program - are expected to occur in the months September and October 2016, there is room for concern whether the ambitious targets of the government can be achieved. Between the launch of the program on 18 July and 1 August 2016 the government only saw IDR 98.43 billion (approx. USD $7.6 million) of additional income from 464 tax payers, while it targets to collect a total of IDR 165 trillion (approx. USD $12.7 billion) within a nine-month period.

  • Cement Industry Indonesia: 6 New Plants Open in 1H-2016

    Six cement factories with a combined annual production capacity of 13.1 million tons will be ready to start operations in the second half of 2016. These six cement plants are owned by Semen Bosowa, Semen Tiga Roda, Conch Semen, Semen Indonesia (two plants) and Semen Manokwari. Widodo Santoso, Chairman of the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI), said the development of the new plants will create an even larger cement oversupply in Indonesia. Annual national cement production capacity now stands at around 100 million tons, while demand is estimated at 63 million tons in 2016.

  • Economic Update Indonesia: July Inflation & Manufacturing Activity

    Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced on Monday (01/08) that Indonesia's inflation rate reached 0.69 percent (m/m) in July 2016, considerably below analysts' forecasts. In fact, the 0.69 percent (m/m) pace is Indonesia's lowest July inflation rate since 2012. On a year-on-year basis, Indonesian inflation eased to a seasonally adjusted 3.21 percent (y/y), from 3.45 percent (y/y) in the preceding month. Meanwhile, Indonesia's manufacturing activity plunged unexpectedly in July.
