In late April 2019 it was rather suddenly announced that President Joko Widodo wants to move the capital city away from Jakarta (in fact, he even wants to move the capital away from Java Island).
On Monday (06/05) Indonesia Investments released the April 2019 edition of its monthly research report. The report aims to inform the reader of the key political, economic and social developments that occurred in Indonesia in the month of April 2019 and also touches upon key international developments that impacted on the Indonesian economy.
It was a welcome surprise to see Indonesia recording a trade surplus of USD $540.2 million in March 2019, extending the monthly trade surplus to two (straight) months, which is something we had not seen in more than a year. However, when we take a look at the first quarter of 2019, then Indonesia’s overall trade balance still shows a deficit of USD $193.4 million.
