  • Indonesian Government Raises Royalty Fees in the Coal Mining Sector

    In order to increase government revenues, the Indonesian government announced that, starting from 2014, coal miners that have a Mining Business License (Izin Usaha Pertambangan/IUP) will have to pay a higher royalty fee to the central government. The decision was made during a meeting between the government and Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) this week. The new royalty policy, which was originally planned to be introduced this year, is expected to result in an increase of IDR 4 trillion (USD $408.2 million) in state revenues.

  • Pelindo II Announces Winner of New Priok Port Tender at the End of 2013

    PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Indonesia Port Corporation in English but most widely known as Pelindo II), the state-owned enterprise that is involved in port and harbour services in ten Indonesian provinces, will choose its partner for the construction of terminal II and terminal III of the New Priok Port project from a selection of 12 companies. These companies can either opt to join the tender for the construction of one terminal, or, for both terminals together. At the end of the year, the winners of the tenders will be announced.

  • Textile Producer Sritex Prepares Listing on Indonesia Stock Exchange

    Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex), an integrated textile manufacturer, is offering 5.6 billion new shares (equivalent to 30 percent of its total stock equity) to the public through an initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The company expects to reap about IDR 1.34 trillion (USD $136.7 million) in new funds through this IPO. The offering period is from 10 to 12 June 2013 and its listing debut is scheduled for Monday 17 June 2013. Underwriter for the IPO is Bahana Securities.

  • Central Bank Uses Foreign Exchange Reserves to Support the Rupiah

    To ease pressures on the IDR rupiah, Indonesia's central bank has used about USD $2.0 billion of its foreign exchange reserves to support the currency as the country's continuing trade deficit as well as concerns about the possible increase in price of subsidized fuel in June has caused much uncertainty about the level of inflation in the near future and puts downward pressure on the rupiah. Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves fell to USD $105.2 billion in late May 2013 from USD $107.3 billion at the end of April.
