Boeing Experiences Severe Turbulence in Indonesia
Boeing, the American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures and sells airplanes, has been experiencing severe turbulence in Indonesia ever since Lion Air flight JT-610 dove into the sea on 29 October 2018 shortly after take-off from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport outside Indonesia’s capital city of Jakarta, killing all 189 people on board (including crew).

Garuda Indonesia Group Lowers Air Ticket Prices by 20%
After plenty of public outcry over the past month, the Garuda Indonesia Group decided to cut prices of air tickets by 20 percent for all domestic flight routes. Starting per Thursday (14.02.2019), air passengers can enjoy lower ticket prices when flying Garuda Indonesia, Citilink Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air, and NAM Air.

Garuda Indonesia Eager to Turn Loss into Profit in 2018
Despite posting a net loss in full-year 2017, Indonesia's national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is optimistic that it will see net profit in 2018. Last year the airline's net loss reached USD $213.4 million, dropping dramatically from a net profit of USD $9.4 million in the preceding year. What strategy will Garuda Indonesia apply to turn the loss into a profit in 2018?

Fleet Optimization Garuda Indonesia: 50 New Airplanes up to 2024
National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia targets to see the arrival of 50 new airplanes up to 2024 in an effort to revitalize the airline's fleet and improve its on-time performance. Pahala Mansury, President Director of Garuda Indonesia, explained that the airline has already been making these orders since 2014. One Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft arrived on 26 December 2017. Between 2020 and 2024 more planes will follow, between 5-10 per year.

Terminal 3 Ultimate at Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta Airport Nearly Ready
State-owned airport services company Angkasa Pura II that operates the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport located just outside Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta, says construction of the airport's third terminal is nearing completion. Angkasa Pura II is optimistic that the IDR 5.7 trillion (approx. USD $432 million) terminal will be ready for operations on 26 May 2016. Budi Karya Sumadi, General Director of Angkasa Pura II, said this terminal - called Terminal 3 Ultimate - will be used for international and domestic flights of Garuda Indonesia (which currently uses Terminal 2).

Garuda Indonesia Mengevaluasi Sponsorship dengan Liverpool Football Club
Maskapai Penerbangan Indonesia Garuda Indonesia akan mengevaluasi kesepakatan sponsorship dengan klub sepak bola Liga Utama Inggris Liverpool dalam dua bulan ke depan. Arief Wibowo, Direktur Jenderal Garuda Indonesia, mengatakan brand awareness di luar negeri merupakan hal yang penting dan kesepakatan sponsorship ini juga merupakan sumber kebanggaan bagi maskapai penerbangan Garuda Indonesia. Namun, mengingat biaya kesepakatan ini sekitar 9 juta dollar Amerika Serikat (AS) per tahun, Garuda perlu mengevaluasi apakah bisa melanjutkan sponsorship yang akan berakhir pada pertengahan 2016 ini.

Garuda Indonesia & PLN to Use Fixed Assets Revaluation Incentive
After the government of Indonesia announced that, effective immediately, a tax incentive is offered to those companies that revalue their fixed assets (as part of the government's fifth stimulus package), both fully state-owned utility firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and partially state-owned airline Garuda Indonesia started to prepare proposals for asset revaluation. A revaluation would increase their equity, allowing them to obtain more loans for business expansion.

Penerbangan Indonesia: Pesawat Militer Jatuh di Medan (Sumatra Utara)
Pada hari Selasa (30/06), sebuah pesawat militer Indonesia (C-130 Hercules) jatuh ke area pemukiman padat penduduk di kota Medan, Sumatra Utara. Pesawat ini, yang terbang dari bandara militer di Medan menuju Tanjung Pinang (Kepulauan Riau), jatuh segera setelah lepas landas dan kemungkinan membawa 122 penumpang pesawat. Seorang juru bicara Pemerintah mengatakan bahwa setidaknya 141 orang telah meninggal dunia akibat peristiwa ini. Angka ini kemungkinan akan meningkat.

Two Airports Serving the Community of Indonesia's Capital City of Jakarta
On Friday 10 January 2014, the government of Indonesia opened Halim Airport for scheduled commercial flights. Previously, the only airport that served these types of flights around Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta and surrounding towns was the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta), located in Cengkareng (Banten). However, the amount of daily passengers at Soetta has exceeded its capacity. Based on data from Airports Council International, released in 2013, Soetta is the world's tenth busiest airport.

Two Indonesian Airlines Plan Corporate Actions for Business Expansion
Garuda Indonesia, the country's top-class airline, is planning to conduct a rights issue in the first quarter of 2014. Through this corporate action, which has already been approved by the shareholders, the state-controlled company aims to raise IDR 2 trillion (USD $162.6 million). For 2014, the airline plans to allocate IDR 4 trillion in capital expenditure (capex) for business expansion. About half of this amount should originate from funds generated through the rights issue.

Weak Market Conditions Trigger Postponement of GMF AeroAsia's IPO
After it was reported that Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia's state-controlled national air carrier, postponed its rights issue, the company stated that it highly doubts an initial public offering (IPO) of its subsidiary Garuda Maintenance Facility (GMF) AeroAsia on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2013. The reason for this postponement is current lingering uncertainty that plagues emerging markets, including Indonesia, since May 2013. Uncertainty about the future of the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing program led to a large outflow of foreign funds.

Garuda Indonesia Prepares Rights Issue and Bond Issuance
Garuda Indonesia, one of the major airlines in Indonesia, has announced to conduct a rights issue in October 2013. Through the rights issue, which involves the issuance of 10 percent of new shares, Garuda aims to reap USD $200 million. Garuda was a fully state-owned company before its initial public offering (IPO) in early 2011 when it released 30 percent of its shares. However, Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) had approved total public offering up to 40 percent. The remaining 10 percent is now offered through the rights issuance.
