  • The 3 Reasons why Indonesian Stocks Fell Sharply on Monday

The benchmark stock index of Indonesia - Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) - fell sharply on Monday (27/04) amid mixed regional stock markets. Three main factors caused the weak performance of Indonesian stocks. Firstly, several key companies posted weak first quarter corporate earnings. Secondly, Indonesia’s economic growth in the first quarter may fall below 5 percent (y/y), which would be a six-year low. Lastly, Indonesia is getting bad press around the globe due to imminent executions of convicted foreign drug traffickers.

  • Indonesia Market Update: Why Stocks Go Up but the Rupiah Goes Down?

Indonesian stocks continued to climb strongly after the market opened on Tuesday (31/03). The country’s benchmark Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) surged nearly one percent. Several external and internal factors are at play here. In line with most Southeast Asian stock markets and currencies, Indonesian stocks and the rupiah were rather flat with a tendency to weaken slightly on Tuesday (17/02). Most investors seem to avoid trading in this short trading week (On Thursday 19 February markets will be closed due to Chinese New Year celebrations). Today, market participants received their special Valentine's gift: a new record-high IHSG level of 4601.95, although in the end it had to close a bit lower.

  • Small Gain for the IHSG after the Chinese New Year Celebrations

  • Have We Landed on a New Resistance Level?

After three days of trying to reach a new resistance level, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG) finally ended above the level of 4500. Actually, it does not mark a new phenomenon as the IHSG had reached 4518.95 at the start of the week. However, back then it could not hold that level for long due to selling pressures. Despite mostly negative Asian stock indices, the IHSG managed to gain in strength as European stock markets opened positively, and due to many promising results of Indonesian companies.

  • Despite Risks of Profit Taking, the IHSG Keeps Moving Upwards

After experiencing various sentiments as well as profit taking, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG) eventually ended higher today than it had closed on Friday. During the trading day, however, it looked like it would end negatively for a while. Mixed Asian stock indices and fears of decline after the IHSG had reached record highs, made the index vulnerable. But due to strong purchases by foreigners and the impact of the positive openings of European stock indices, the IHSG booked a small gain.
