  • Higher Interest Rates in 2015 Could Further Limit GDP Growth of Indonesia

The economy of Indonesia, which has been slowing since 2011, will have difficulty to rebound in 2015 as the central bank’s key interest rate (BI rate) is expected to be raised again to avert capital outflows brought on by higher interest rates in the US and to combat accelerated inflation after domestic subsidized fuel prices have been raised by the new government led by president-elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi). After a GDP growth pace of 6.5 percent (y/y) in 2011, economic growth in Southeast Asia’s largest economy fell to 5.8 percent (y/y) in 2013.

  • Economy of Indonesia: Regional Election Bill and US Economic Data

The most controversial and heatedly debated news story from Indonesia in the past week was parliament’s approval of a new bill that puts an end to direct voting in the regions. This means that it are not the people but instead the regional legislatures that will elect mayors, district heads and governors. Critics say this is a major setback for the democracy process of Indonesia and will make local elections prone to corruption, collusion and nepotism as Indonesia’s legislatures - both at the national and regional level - are believed to be corrupted to a high degree.

  • Indonesia AirAsia about New Airfare Ceiling & Passenger Service Charge

Low cost carrier Indonesia AirAsia, the Indonesian unit of Malaysia's AirAsia, carried 4.08 million air passengers in the first half of 2014, a growth of 12 percent from the same period last year (3.64 million passengers). However, this growth figure failed to achieve the company’s initial target as it had to reduce flights and routes in an effort to cut back on expenses amid high operational costs. Although the firm managed to pass on part of expensive fuel costs to passengers (fuel surcharge), operational costs for specific routes are high.

The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG) rebounded after receiving support from positive American stock markets due to a fall in US jobless claims. American stock markets also influenced most other Asian stock markets in a positive way. Despite the fact that most foreign investors engaged in profit taking by selling Indonesian assets, the IHSG managed to gain 0.69 percent to the level of 4,819.32. Trade volume decreased, while total value of transactions rose.

  • Indonesia Stock Exchange Down Despite Positive Asian Market Sentiments

On Thursday's trading day, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG) was tame and weakened again. Foreign market participants were mostly selling their Indonesian assets and influenced domestic investors to behave similarly. Most other Asian stock markets, however, turned positive and were followed by good European openings. It did not prevent the IHSG from losing 49.07 points, or 1.01 percent to 4,786.37. Trade volume increased, while total value of transactions decreased.

  • Losing its Momentum: the Indonesia Stock Exchange Falls 1.04 Percent

After continuously reaching new record-high levels last week, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG) finally had to give up some of its gain and closed 1.04 percent lower. • Positive Global Stock Markets Push Indonesia Stock Exchange to New Record

Apparently, yesterday's decline was only a small stumbling block for the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG). • Results of Italian Elections Turn Most Stock Indices Downwards

On Tuesday's trading day, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG) was not able to maintain its record breaking upward movement. • Indonesia Stock Exchange Records Small Loss Amid Mixed International Markets

Today, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG) had to give up its upward movement. Indonesia's main indicator, that moved in the red zone during the whole day, was affected by profit taking, and although on previous occasions the index successfully passed beyond the forming of a 'shooting star', today it failed. Its movement further away from the upper bollinger band led to the assumption that the IHSG will test its next support level.
