Starting as a commodity trading company, Bakrie & Brothers developed into one of the biggest companies in the steel pipe industry. Later, it diversified its businesses and transformed into an investment company. Its investment portfolios are currently as follows:
Coal Mining; through Bumi Resources, Indonesia's largest coal miner by production volume and largest global thermal coal exporter, Bakrie & Brothers has a substantial stake in the country's mining sector. Apart from the coal segment, its business portfolios also include copper, gold, iron ore and coalbed methane (CBM).
Agribusiness; through Bakrie Sumatera Plantations, it taps the palm oil and rubber businesses.
