The Indonesian rupiah continues to slide on Friday (29/06) and is now hovering around the IDR 14,400 per US dollar level. The weak rupiah reaffirms analysts' expectations of seeing another interest rate hike. Today, the central bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia) will conclude its June policy meeting. But perhaps the crucial question is not "will Bank Indonesia raise its benchmark rate?" Possibly the more crucial questions are "by how much will it raise its rate?" and "what other policies will it implement to strengthen rupiah stability as well as financial stability?"

Trimuda Nuansa Citra, an Indonesia-based cargo and logistics company, made its trading debut on the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Thursday (28/06). The company became the top gainer of the day as its shares soared 69.33 percent (thus triggering the auto reject system), while the benchmark Jakarta Composite Index tumbled 2.08 percent amid concern over Sino-US trade tensions.

On Wednesday (27/06) around 150 million people are estimated to have cast their vote for the local elections in 169 regions across Indonesia (in two Papuan districts elections were delayed due to administrative and security reasons). There have not been any reports of disturbances (including fraud) and we can therefore assume that the elections went peacefully (and fair) across Indonesia.
