• Jakarta Composite Index & Rupiah under Pressure on Thursday

    In line with expectations the US Federal Reserve left its benchmark interest rate unchanged in the range of 1.50 - 1.75 percent at the two-day May policy meeting (1-2 May 2018). The US central bank also said it expects the recent rise in inflation (approaching the Fed's target) to be sustained, thus markets are increasingly expecting an interest rate hike at the next policy meeting (scheduled for 12-13 June).

  • Indonesia Has Become World's 2nd Largest Geothermal Energy Producer

    Indonesia has now overtaken the Philippines in terms of geothermal power capacity. At the end of Q1-2018 Indonesia's installed geothermal power capacity reached 1,925 MW, higher than the 1,868 MW capacity of the Philippines. Moreover, by the end of 2018, Indonesia is expected to see its geothermal power capacity rise to 2,058 MW. However, Indonesia is still far away from becoming the world's biggest geothermal power producer. Capacity of the USA currently stands at 3,591 MW, hence leading by a distance.

  • IPO News: Charnic Capital Makes Trading Debut on Indonesia Stock Exchange

    Jakarta-based investment company Charnic Capital made a strong trading debut on the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Wednesday (03/05). Due to the steep price rise of its shares (+70.0 percent) it triggered the auto-reject system, thus trading in the company's shares has been stopped and will resume tomorrow. Charnic Capital is the ninth company to have completed its initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2018. There are now 574 listed companies in Indonesia.

  • Consumer Price Index Indonesia: Inflation at 0.10% in April 2018

    The pace of Indonesia's headline inflation was recorded at 0.10 percent month-on-month (m/m) in April 2018, a relatively high pace compared to April inflation in recent years. However, compared to the preceding month (when the consumer price index rose 0.20 percent m/m) Indonesian inflation eased. Meanwhile, on a year-on-year (y/y) basis inflation accelerated modestly to 3.41 percent (y/y) from 3.40 percent (y/y) in the preceding month. Calendar-year inflation accumulated to 1.09 percent in the first four months of 2018.
