• Indonesia-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement

    Chile and Indonesia are on track to sign a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) before the end of 2017. Both nations concluded the fourth round of negotiations on 23 August 2017 in Jakarta, while the final round is scheduled for October in Chile. Iman Pambagyo, Chief of the Indonesian negotiating team, said that in the first stage of the partnership a number of specific goods are prioritized to be free from import tariffs.

    Indonesian glass manufacturers are still waiting for the Indonesian government to cut the gas price. Yustinus Gunawan, Chairman of the Float and Safety Glasses Association (in Indonesian: Asosiasi Kaca Lembaran dan Pengamanan, or AKLP), says the high gas price undermines Indonesian glass producers' competitiveness as foreign counterparts can produce their glass output with lower production costs, hence being able to offer more competitive prices on the international market.

    Indonesia's largest cement producer Semen Indonesia, which controls about 41 percent of the domestic cement market, targets to have raised its annual installed cement production capacity to 37 million tons by September 2017. Johan Samudra, Director of Production and Business Strategy at Semen Indonesia, said the company's production capacity currently stands at 32-33 million tons.
