    A new World Bank report, entitled "Indonesia's Global Workers: Juggling Opportunities & Risks", discusses the attractive opportunities for Indonesian workers to decide to migrate and work abroad. However, the report also notes that it is important for Indonesian authorities to reform its labor migration system to allow those Indonesians who want to work abroad can access better paid jobs, while their protection can be improved.

  • Palm Oil Update Indonesia: Rising CPO Price in Q1-2018?

    The crude palm oil (CPO) price is expected to strengthen in the first quarter of 2018 due to the impact of the La Nina weather phenomenon and rising CPO demand in the traditional big CPO importing countries. This is good news for stakeholders in the palm oil industry as the price has been sliding around 16 percent so far this year (toward the 2,700 Malaysian ringgit per ton level).

  • Government of Indonesia Sees No Weakening Purchasing Power

    Within Indonesia it is still being debated whether consumers' purchasing power has really weakened in the third quarter. Some argue consumers are currently focused on saving their money rather than spending it (this explains rising third-party funds in Indonesia's banking system). Others argue that Indonesia's household consumption data are distorted because this year's Ramadan and Idul Fitri celebrations fell in the second quarter of the year (whereas in 2016 these celebrations fell in Q3).
