For most people in the bigger cities of Java, Sumatra and Bali the regular Blue Bird taxis (or Blue Bird Pusaka) are a familiar sight on the busy city streets. Blue Bird is the clear market leader in Indonesia's taxi services market in which dozens of private companies participate. The first Indonesian taxi company that went public on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) was Express Transindo Utama, which is Blue Bird's main competitor for market leadership in Indonesia's taxi services industry. Blue Bird taxis can be found in Jakarta, Bali, Bandung, Banten, Batam, Lombok, Manado, Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta, as well as in key business and tourism spots across the archipelago.
At the start of 2015 Blue Bird had a fleet of 32,500 regular taxicabs, over 15,000 of which are used in Jakarta. The company serves more than 8.5 million passengers per month.
In November 2014, Blue Bird conducted an initial public offering (IPO) on the IDX through which it raised IDR 2.4 trillion (USD $200 million) by selling around 14 percent of its enlarged equity.
