Ahead of Idul Fitri (Lebaran), the festivities that follow after the holy fasting month of Ramadan has ended (and when many people will leave the cities to go back to their place of birth for a few days), motorcycle sales are expected to increase again. Idul Fitri will start at the end of July.

In the first four months of 2014, a total of 2.7 million motorcycles were sold in Indonesia.


Regional Perspective Q1-2014

Meanwhile, the production of motorcycles in the ASEAN region fell 4.1 percent (yoy) to 2.73 units in the first quarter of 2014. Based on data from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF), production in Thailand fell 21.4 percent (yoy) to 462,218 units in Q1-2014, followed by Malaysia with a 16.9 percent decline to 99,326 units. Production of motorcycles in Indonesia, ASEAN's largest motorcycle market, in Q1-2014 grew 0.4 percent to 1.98 million.

The Philippines posted a 13 percent growth in motorcycle production to 189,966 units in Q1-2014.
