The Indonesian government targets to welcome nine million foreign tourists in 2013, and ten million in 2014. The government expects a sharp rise in tourists from the Asia-Pacific region as the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has been engaged in promotional activities to attract tourists from this region (particularly Singapore, China, Japan, and South Korea).
In recent years, Indonesia has shown a steady rise in foreign visitor arrivals. This is an important development as it will increase the sector's contribution towards the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and therefore provide more employment opportunities for the people.
