On 24 February 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was joined by two former Indonesian presidents (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo) when he launched Danantara, Indonesia’s new sovereign wealth fund. Likely, the presence of two former presidents served to underline the historic significance of this launch as well as underscoring broad-based political support for the move.
Sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) have existed for many decades around the world. By establishing a SWF – and inject capital into the SWF – governments can strengthen their national economies and generate wealth for future generations. In fact, a SWF is essentially a state-owned investment fund typically funded using excess capital.
Setelah kabarnya sempat santer terdengar sejak akhir tahun lalu, kini Indonesia punya lembaga Sovereign Wealth Fund, bernama Indonesia Investment Authority (INA). Presiden Indonesia Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo pada Selasa (16/02/2021) telah mengumumkan orang-orang yang menempati direksi lembaga pengelola investasi tersebut. Sebagai permulaan, Jokowi telah memilih Ridha DM Wirakusumah – yang sebelumnya adalah Direktur Utama Bank Permata – untuk didapuk menjadi CEO INA.
