Consumer Price Index Indonesia: Inflation at 0.20% in March 2018
Indonesia's Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that the nation's headline inflation rose 0.20 percent month-to-month (m/m) in March 2018 especially due to a rise in prices of fuel and spices. Meanwhile, on a year-on-year (y/y) basis, Indonesia's inflation rate accelerated to 3.40 percent in the third month of the year, up from 3.18 percent (y/y) in the preceding month but still comfortably within the central bank's target range of 2.5 - 4.5 percent (y/y) for full-year 2018.
BPS Head Suhariyanto said all expenditure groups experienced inflation in March 2018:
• Foodstuffs; 0.14 percent (m/m)
• Processed food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco; 0.26 percent (m/m)
• Housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel; 0.06 percent (m/m)
• Clothing; 0.36 percent (m/m)
• Health; 0.37 percent (m/m)
• Education, recreation and sports; 0.07 percent (m/m)
• Transportation, communication and financial services; 0.28 percent (m/m).
Suhariyanto added that at the end of February 2018 prices of Pertamax and Pertamax Turbo rose. Meanwhile, on 24 March 2018 the price of Pertalite was raised by IDR 200 per liter. The impact of these higher prices on the nation's inflation rate is expected to continue up to April 2018.

Meanwhile, the start of the harvest season caused prices of rice to decline. Still, overall, prices of foodstuffs rose, especially due to higher prices of spices.
Indonesia's core inflation experienced inflation of 0.19 percent (m/m) in March. Meanwhile, so far this year (January-March 2018) core inflation reached 0.76 percent, while annual core inflation accelerated to 2.67 percent (y/y).
