Sigit Kumala, Head of the Commercial Department at AISI, said exports are showing a better trend than domestic motorcycles sales. This shows that (1) Indonesian motorcycles are competitive - in terms of price - on the international market and (2) the quality of Indonesian-made motorcycles is sufficient.

On the Asian market there exists solid demand for automatic scooters (locally known as skutik) that are manufactured in Indonesia. Meanwhile, from Europe there is strong demand for Indonesian-made sport motorcycles.

Considering strong motorcycle exports so far in 2017, AISI targets to see exports rise to 400,000 units in full-year 2017, up 40.8 percent (y/y) from 284,065 exported motorcycles in full-year 2016.

Ahmad Muhibuddin, Deputy Head of Communication at Astra Honda Motor, said most foreign demand for Indonesian motorcycles originates from the ASEAN region, such as the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam. Astra Honda Motor targets to export 100,000 motorcycle units in full-year 2017, up nearly 70 percent (y/y) from 59,311 motorcycle exports last year.

Ahmad Fauzi, Marketing Export 2W, Assistant to Section Head at Suzuki Indomobil Motor, said rising export volumes are particularly supported by the launch of new models such as the GSX.
