Forbes Rich List: Top Ten List of Richest Indonesians in 2013
American business magazine Forbes has updated its ranking of the world's richest people in its November 2013 edition of Forbes World's Billionaires list. At the same time, Forbes Asia has compiled a list of the 50 richest in Indonesia. Together, these 50 richest Indonesians are worth USD $95 billion, an amount that is roughly equal to Indonesia's total foreign exchange reserves at the end of October 2013 or 11.2 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2012 (USD $850 billion).
For the fifth time in a row, the richest Indonesians per November 2013 are the brothers Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Hartono. Together, they are worth USD $15 billion, primarily acquired through their activities in the banking and tobacco industries. The brothers own large stakes in Bank Central Asia and Djarum (a cigarette manufacturer). Their wealth is slightly down from the Forbes March 2013 edition, in which the brothers were valued at USD $16.7 billion as they felt the impact of Indonesia's slowing economy. The country's GDP growth slowed in the second and third quarters of 2013 to 5.83 percent and 5.62 percent respectively.
