The Indonesian government has set ambitious targets of welcoming a total of nine million foreign tourists in 2013, and ten million in 2014. The government expects these increases to originate mainly from the Asia- Pacific region itself. In December 2012, an official of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy said that they selected 16 target markets for the country's tourist industry (including Singapore, China, Japan, and South Korea) where a number of events will be organized to attract tourists to Indonesia.
