• Only 16.7% of Indonesia's Oil Palm Plantations ISPO Certified

    So far, an area of 1.9 million hectares of oil palm plantations, which can produce up to 8.2 million tons of crude palm oil (CPO), has been certified under the Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) scheme. As of August 29, 306 ISPO certificates have been granted to 304 Indonesian oil palm companies, one plasma farming association, and one farmer self-help cooperative. The above-mentioned figure includes the 40 ISPO certificates that were submitted today to local palm oil companies.

  • Freeport & Indonesian Government Agree on New Mining Permit

    Arizona-based mining giant Freeport-McMoRan finally reached an agreement with the Indonesian government regarding the extension of the permit to operate the Grasberg mine, the world's largest gold mine and third-largest copper mine, in Papua. Ignasius Jonan, Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, said Freeport can per direct apply for a 10-year permit extension to mine at Grasberg beyond the year 2021. Afterwards, it can apply once more for a 10-year extension.

  • Unprecedented North Korea Provocation Hits Asian Markets

    Early this morning (Tuesday 29 August) North Korea fired another ballistic missile test. This time, however, the missile went over the northern part of Japan, an apparent attempt to provoke those who oppose North Korea's test program. The test did not lead to damage or injuries and broke into three pieces before plunging in the Pacific Ocean.   • Exports of Motorcycles from Indonesia Showing Good Growth

    Exports of motorcycle units from Indonesia rose sharply. Based on the latest data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) Indonesia shipped 223,229 motorcycles abroad in the January-July 2017 period, up 35.1 percent from motorcycle exports in the same period one year earlier.
