The high price-to-earnings ratio (PER) of Indonesia's benchmark Jakarta Composite Index has caused foreign investors to record net selling since 4 July 2017. The peak occurred on Tuesday (25/07) when foreign investors recorded net selling of IDR 1.65 trillion (approx. USD $124 million). So far this year, foreign net buying into Indonesian stocks now stands at IDR 6.56 trillion (approx. USD $493 million).
Indonesia's benchmark Jakarta Composite Index slipped for the third consecutive day on Tuesday (02/05), unable to follow the general trend in Asian markets. While the overnight rally on Wall Street (the Nasdaq hitting a new all-time high) and easing geopolitical concerns on Korea provided the right context for most Asian stocks to rise, Indonesia failed to follow suit. This was attributed to higher-than-expected inflation. However, we also want to add that valuations of Indonesian stocks are still high, making these stocks "a bit unattractive".

After touching a new all-time record high level last week, analysts are optimistic that Indonesia's benchmark Jakarta Composite Index will surpass the psychological level of 6,000.00 points later this year. Last Friday (25/08) the benchmark index of Indonesia reached 5,915.36 points, a new record, while market capitalization touched IDR 6,481.8 trillion (approx. USD $483.9 billion).
Last week, Indonesia's main index (IHSG) rebounded 303 points to 4,818.90. After weeks of foreign outflows, Indonesia finally experienced capital inflows again during the last two days of the week. For example, on Friday (28/06) foreigners bought IDR 960 billion (USD $97.0 million) more Indonesian shares than they sold. Multipolar Technology, an information technology company and the wholly owned subsidiary of Multipolar, seeks to reap funds between IDR 160 and 188 billion (USD $16.2 to $19.0 million) through an initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) to finance its expansion plans. The company will offer 375 million shares, or 20 percent of its stock capital, to the public for a price between IDR 425 and 500 per share. Multipolar Technology provides IT hardware and infrastructure, software and business solutions, and consultancy services.
