  • Update on Indonesian Cement Industry: Prospects for 2014 and Beyond

    Indonesian cement sales fell 25 percent to 3.7 million tons in July 2014 from 5 million tons in the same month last year. This sharp decline is attributed to the Lebaran holiday (also known as Idul Fitri in which Muslims celebrate the end of the fasting month) when businesses are closed as well as Indonesia’s July 2014 presidential election. Slowing cement sales are also caused by declining economic growth (5.12 percent yoy in Q2-2014). Cement sales are a key indicator for construction activity (infrastructure and property development).

    Holcim Indonesia, the third largest cement producer in Indonesia, is a cement-based building materials and services provider with operations in two countries, Indonesia and Malaysia. The company currently holds a market share of around 15 to 16 percent in Indonesia in terms of cement production. Holcim and its subsidiaries have a combined cement production capacity of 9.1 million tons in Indonesia. The company, part of the Swiss-based Holcim Group, aims to expand production capacity with its two new Tuban plants.

  • 13 Indonesian Companies Payout USD $2.30 Billion for Final Dividends 2012

    In the period April-June 2013, at least 13 Indonesian companies are planning to pay the final dividends for book year 2012. It is expected that this number will rise in the weeks ahead as there are still companies that need to hold the annual general meeting (AGM), in which dividend payouts are decided. Last year, more than one hundred listed companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange paid out dividends (of a total number of 462 listed companies at end 2012).

  • Bank Mandiri and Holcim Indonesia Increase Dividend Payouts

    In the General Meeting of Shareholders it was decided that Bank Mandiri, Indonesia’s largest financial institution by assets, will pay dividend of IDR 199.33 per share to its shareholders. Total dividend that will be paid amounts to IDR 4.65 trillion (US $479.4 million), which equals about 33 percent of the bank's net profit in 2012. Bank Mandiri, which is 60 percent owned by the Indonesian government, reported a 26.6 percent increase in net profit last year.

  • Holcim Indonesia Reports 27 Percent Increase in Net Profit

    Holcim Indonesia, Indonesia's third-largest cement producer, reported net profit of IDR 1.35 trillion (US $140.0 million) in 2012, a 27.0 percent increase compared to the previous year. Earnings per share increased to IDR 176. At the coming shareholders meeting (2 April 2013), the Board of Directors will propose a final dividend of IDR 48 per share. This brings total dividend in 2012 to IDR 80, as an interim dividend of IDR 32 per share was paid in September.

  • Indonesia's Falling Cement Sales in August 2013 Indicate Slowing Economy

    According to data from the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI), domestic cement sales have fallen 5.8 percent to 3.3 million tons in August 2013 (from the same month last year). Being an important indicator of economic expansion (as cement sales inform about the development of property and infrastructure projects in the country), these lower cement sales confirm the slowing pace of economic growth in Indonesia. Compared to July 2013, cement sales in Indonesia fell by a massive 32 percent.
